Our Home - Lord Howe Island
Share
In a landscape like no other, with cloud capped mountains that rise straight up from the ocean. The landscape is lush with tropical green foliage and the island is surrounded by the most divine blue green waters with a diverse marine life. Lord Howe is a tiny speck in the middle of the Tasman Sea, 600 kms east of Port Macquarie. A UNESCO World Heritage island with a permanent park preserve that covers about 70% of the island.
Its raw beauty has many experiences on offer; hiking, snorkelling, diving, fishing, nesting seabirds and pristine beaches and the beachcomber.
The first sighting of the Island was in 1788, but it wasn't permanently settled until 1834. In the 1880's a decline in whaling saw the locals turn to exporting the endemic Kentia Palm. This still remains along with the tourism industry. There is lots to love....great restaurants, cafes, a fantastic museum, a few boutique shops and somewhere to get a few supplies for your beach bbq and of course a must visit is the Distillery.
